After entering the USA. I have been hosted by very good people that until today I could not express my gratitude (I prefer not to mention names for their privacy). During my stay with them, there is a birthday that was coming. Therefore, I should think about what gifts I should give them. You’d think that choosing a gift should be an easy task, until you realize you have to buy something for someone who has almost everything that they wanted.
After several weeks of deep thinking, I finally found what I could offer as a gift. Once I was done with my present I started to listen other member of the family, friends etc. struggling with the same problem I had. This is where I got the click that a lot of people struggle when it comes to choosing a gift. It can be for a friend, a mother, a girlfriend or boyfriend… and even for our self.
On the day of the anniversary, family members and friends gave their gifts. He smiled to be modest, gave some compliment about the gifts, but you could tell he wasn’t sincere. When I noticed this. I figured I have to give mine in a more original way, so I waited until he was alone, without any spectators and gave him a little speech while giving my gift.
After he opened my gift tears flowed down his cheeks and what he said to me marked me. He said “Everyone thinks I have everything I wanted, they don’t make any effort, even my children…” He gave me a hug as he said these words and thanked me continuously.
That’s when I realized what an impact choosing the right gift can make. Since this day I tried to Help people to choose the right gift for someone that matters.

Everybody wants to be understood but few people understand others, we are so caught up in ourselves that we don’t realize sometimes, how we treat others, and for me knowing someone enough to be able to choose the right thing to make them smile, or get emotional, is one of the best ways to make people feel seen. it shows that they’re important enough to you.
I’m part of Generosus because Terry came to me with the idea and i thought it was great, to help people make there loves one Happy.
Because choosing a gift is not just about buying something, it’s about the level of understanding you have of the person. some people don’t really care about gifts, and some do, some people like fancy things while others just care about the genuine thoughts behind the gift.
We are different in many ways, the way we think, the way we experience or see things, and that’s what make each one of us unique. I was always interested in psychology and personality traits, and I still am to this day, I think it can help see people beyond what they want to see and care for them in a beautiful way.

I’ve always hated birthday’s, holidays, or any kind of event that required me to give a present. I never know what to bring, especially when it’s someone from another culture or who has a different ideology than me.
Since I came to the US, gift giving has been really hard for me. In Haïti, where I come from, we value food (fresh out of the garden), money, community, and more. Therefore we are more likely to give such gifts. But, almost three years ago, I unexpectedly came to the US because of the bad situation in my home country. My first holiday there was Christmas. Oh man! I’ve never been more stressed in my life. Being new to the culture, the people, their beliefs, ext… didn’t really help my cause.
I was scared to give gifts that was maybe offensive to their culture, and I also had no idea what to give. I’m sure there’s plenty of people in the same spot as me, or had similar experiences, and that’s okay! It’s normal not to know what to get somebody, or to know what could be offensive to their culture. And so, with Generosus, nobody will have to be in this situation anymore.
